The EU Commission opened a public consultation entitled "Towards an EU Product Policy Framework contributing to the Circular Economy", including a special focus on the furniture sector.
EFIC highlights that product design is a central area where the EU could help the industry setting circular objectives and deciding what can be achieved, e.g. lower emissions and less waste. However, the industry should be allowed to come up with technical solutions and decide how to achieve those objectives.
A long life time, together with increased reuse and repairability, are key tools in a circular economy perspective. In practice, a product's life should always be adapted to its intended use and safety regime, in order to better identify what a long life time is.
