EFIC looks forward to contributing to the Commission’s High-Level Forum on European standardisation

January 23, 2023

EFIC is pleased to be represented in the High-Level Forum on European Standardisation set up by the European Commission to identify standardisation priorities in support of EU policies and legislation. The forum was formally inaugurated by Commissioner Breton on 20 January.

President Edi Snaidero, EFIC representative in the high-level forum, said:

‘We are pleased to be part of this multi-stakeholder group and help advance European standardisation work. Standards are key for a harmonised Single Market, for a competitive European industry and for enhanced innovation in Europe. This forum will be important to identify standardization priorities for the twin digital and green transitions and a resilient, harmonised and competitive Single Market, as well as for solving bottlenecks in standardisation processes.

The furniture industry is proactive in identifying technical solutions to accompany policy developments. For example, in the context of the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation,  CEN TC 207 is working on requirements and tools for furniture circularity and evaluation methods for circular furniture design and product life extension strategies. It will be key to exchange on these efforts in the platform.’

The high-level forum brings together Member State representatives, European Standardisation Organisations, industry, civil society and academia.

Its goals are to support a green, digital and resilient single market, to bring more alignment between European policy priorities, industrial innovation, investment activities and standardisation actions and to discuss possible work strands in support of the implementation of the EU Strategy on Standardisation.
